What's Going On In Our Garden

Our rain barrel plants are doing great!

Tomatoes are still going strong. Can't wait until they all start turning.
A few of our many many tomatoes!
Sweet potatoes are doing well it seems that bunnies have left them alone.
Oxheart tomato, these seeds were from an old Italian guy my family knew. We started planting them and saving seeds to keep them going.

Our cantaloupes are getting big! We have about 3-4 nice ones.
All our sunflowers are getting tall and are about to flower.
This is where our potatoes came from and we also planted a second crop in half of this area. The rest will be for other plants we can find.

Cucumbers are really climbing!!
Our new pepper plants seem to have taken well.

Watermelon seeds we just kind of planted not thinking we would get them to come up!
Still getting broccoli pretty frequently!
Our corn is doing good, but they are starting to get the stink bugs! :(
More corn!
Tomatillos are doing great!
Dill is finally going to seed. Its as tall as our coop!
Avocados are doing great!
Cherry tomatoes!
Our buckets are still doing good!

Weekly Update 7/11/2014

Backyard Farmings
Weekly Update 7/11/14

News around our backyard farm:

  • We harvested our garlic this week!
    • We got a total of 101 bulbs of usable garlic which is only a few less then what we had planted last fall.
  • Nick started his new job this past week!
  • Our potatoes and onions are almost ready to be harvested!
  • We finally have silk on our corn stalks so we should start to get our corn soon. Hopefully the same time we get tomatillos to make salsa.

Dottie
                      ***Hen of the Week***
She has recovered well from hatching her chicks, although she is now at the bottom of the pecking order and is having trouble gaining all her weight back. Its a slow process so we have to make sure that she is getting the nutrients she needs.

Our Garlic Harvest

This is one of our bigger bulbs we got! The garlic got
to a good size this year compared to what we got last year.

What's Going On In Our Garden

Our bee balm is doing great!

Since we have some empty space from the garlic we decided to add a few more pepper
plants, can never have enough!

Close up of the corn, it's getting super tall!

Finally some silk!!

We have picked most of the large broccoli heads and are now
starting to get the smaller ones on all our plants.

Our tomatillos! We love to make green salsa with these!

Our cucumbers are doing great! We have picked a lot ever since that first one

Sweet potatoes are really starting to vine!

Tomato plants are still battling with blight but it seems
to be doing okay. We are going to have a lot of tomatoes.
 We finally have cucumbers!

A tomato plant that we placed in a pot because
it needed to be moved.
